We are currently sponsoring Jump Jockey, Kevin Jones.

Kastani Beachkastani-beach-horse

I have been fairly quiet since Christmas and the New Year with only a handful of rides. Most recently Kastani Beach who put his best foot forward in the very testing conditions at Plumpton on Monday the 12th to get up in the closing stages to win by a short head. Great for his connections as he has changed ownership recently, but is still part owned by Philippa Downing, partner of his previous owner, the late Mr Toby Balding. Mr Balding was a man who I admired so much in racing, so to win on this horse means a lot to me and especially Philippa.

Seamus, who I ride for most, has been in terrific form with 4 winners since the 1st January! Hopefully I will be able to get onto a few more of these horses and help to get Dean’s sponsorship on TV. We were on Channel 4 early in January but unfortunate very testing conditions and the horse not enjoying it meant we were beaten a long way.

Aftermath of Christmas

The embarrassing part of my Christmas is my Post Christmas weigh in. After too many mince pies and plenty of Christmas dinner, on Boxing Day I weighed 10st 8lbs. It could have been worse but unfortunately the weight goes on a lot easier than it comes off! Last week I got up early on a Sunday morning and had a fantastic idea. These don’t come too often, so I must cherish this moment! I had decide that a 3.5mile run to the swimming pool, followed by a short swim and a 3/4 hour sauna session was on the cards. The run was great, I loosened up in my swim and my cool down in the sauna was anything but cool but it was relaxing. That was a great work out ready to start my Sunday off. “I’ll just drive home now…. Oh. I didn’t drive here!” Running shoes back on and a slog back home. It was all down hill from there. Well, everything apart from the run!

For Christmas I bought myself a contour helmet camera to play about with and hopefully get some nice shots of the horses galloping and jumping. So watch this space for a jockeys eye view.

My New Years resolution is to eat more healthily, cutting out fast foods and silly takeaways. I’m pleased to report that so far I am keeping up to this relatively well.
